High Voltage Overhead Line Conductors

Five conductor variants — AAC, AAAC, ACSR, ACAR, and ACSS — meeting or exceeding ASTM, IEC, DIN, BS, AS, CSA, NFC, and SS standards. OEM services available for special requests.

High voltage overhead line conductors
01Overview

Five variants. One supplier.

Intraco supplies the full range of high voltage overhead line conductors used in transmission and distribution networks — from refined aluminium (AAC) for urban and coastal use, to steel-supported alloys (ACSS) rated for continuous operation at 250°C.

All variants meet or exceed international standards (ASTM, IEC, DIN, BS, AS, CSA, NFC, SS). OEM services are available for special requests.

# Code Name Construction Primary application
01 AAC All Aluminum Conductor Aluminium 1350-H19 wires, concentrically stranded. Urban areas with short spacing; coastal regions; railway and metro.
02 AAAC All Aluminum Alloy Conductor Aluminium alloy 6201 wires, concentrically stranded. Aerial circuits requiring more mechanical resistance than AAC.
03 ACSR Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced Hard-drawn 1350-H19 aluminium over galvanized steel core. River crossings, long spans, HV/EHV overhead lines.
04 ACAR Aluminium Conductor Alloy Reinforced Aluminium 1350 strands over Aluminium-Magnesium-Silicon alloy core. Overhead transmission and distribution where ampacity and strength matter.
05 ACSS Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported Annealed 1360-0 aluminium over high-strength galvanized steel core. Reconductoring; high emergency loadings; up to 250°C continuous.

01 · AAC

All Aluminum Conductor

Aluminium 1350-H19 wires, concentrically stranded.

Construction

MaterialAluminium 1350-H19
ConstructionConcentrically stranded wires
Metal purityMinimum 99.7%

Applications

  • Urban areas with short spacing and close supports
  • Coastal regions, due to high corrosion resistance
  • Railway and Metro industries
02 · AAAC

All Aluminum Alloy Conductor

Aluminium alloy 6201 wires, concentrically stranded.

Construction

MaterialAluminium alloy 6201
ConstructionConcentrically stranded wires

Applications

  • Bare conductor cable for aerial circuits requiring greater mechanical resistance than AAC
  • Better corrosion resistance than ACSR
  • Superior sag characteristics and strength-to-weight ratio compared to AAC and ACSR
03 · ACSR

Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced

Hard-drawn 1350-H19 aluminium over galvanized steel core.

Construction

AluminiumHard-drawn 1350-H19
Steel coreSingle or stranded, galvanized
GalvanizationClass A, B, or C
Steel content6% – 40% (variable for strength)
CorrosionOptional grease application or infusion

Applications

  • River crossings, overhead earth wires, extra-long span installations
  • Higher strength variants for resistance requirements
  • Lightweight properties for longer distances with fewer supports
  • High and extra-high voltage overhead lines (greater corona limit)
04 · ACAR

Aluminium Conductor Alloy Reinforced

Aluminium 1350 strands over Aluminium-Magnesium-Silicon alloy core.

Construction

ConductorAluminium 1350 strands
CoreHigh-strength AlMgSi alloy
VariantsStranded core, or distributed AlMgSi wires throughout

Applications

  • Overhead transmission and distribution lines
  • Balanced mechanical and electrical properties
  • Ideal where ampacity, strength, and lightweight are priorities
  • Better mechanical and electrical properties than equivalent ACSR, AAC, or AAAC
05 · ACSS

Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported

Annealed 1360-0 aluminium over high-strength galvanized steel core.

Construction

AluminiumAnnealed 1360-0 ("0" temper)
CoreSteel strands, galvanized
LoadSteel core carries most or all mechanical load
Max tempContinuous operation to 250°C

Applications

  • Overhead distribution and transmission lines
  • Reconductoring projects requiring increased current with existing tensions
  • Economized new structures
  • High emergency loading scenarios
  • Aeolian vibration problem areas
